Heath Ledger’s role in Parnassus to be filled by “CGI” stunt double, not ghost
According to People, Terry Gilliam has denied the rumor that Johnny Depp will replace Heath Ledger in his upcoming film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Despite that, the bat-shit insane filmmaker won’t be likely to shelve the project due to the death of his star, and close friend.
Said actor Christopher Plummer, Gilliam is “…trying to work out at this moment how to continue on. Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way, perhaps, of turning Heath into other people and then, using stills and I think they call it ‘CGI’…”
If Gilliam can somehow master this “CGI,” then the film will go on. I’m not sure if he can do it, because this “CGI” sounds like a strange and wondrous thing. But I have faith that Gilliam will find a way to master this strange and frightening technology, or find a sorcerer who can do it for him. As long as CGI Heath doesn’t end up like some of the other recent CGI leading men, we’ll be fine.
In the meantime, all we can do is hope and pray that this “CGI” isn’t in fact black magic, which I highly suspect it is.
