Do you REALLY want to save the Justice League movie? Here’s how.

Recently, I came across a blog entry detailing ways to “save the Justice League movie.” I agree wholeheartedly with Charlie about his first point about keeping it simple, but as for his story…

First off, the idea to keep it simple? That should be obvious. By the time we get (if ever) a full-out Justice League movie, there really shouldn’t be any need for backstory. Superman and Batman are iconic enough that even without their franchises, people know who they are. Wonder Woman’s close to them, and also has a new movie coming out. Flash is simple enough; he runs fast, and depending on which Flash we get he’s a smartass or a tragic hero. Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter are really the only members of the JL who would need some quick explanation for the general filmgoing populace. (Skip Aquaman; it would be too hard to fix his damaged image from the Superfriends cartoon when he’s not the main player.)

From there, though, we’re in complete disagreeance.  Sure, his plot sounds solid enough; the “special” heroes like Superman, Lantern, Flash and co. are in space fighting, while Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are down on earth. But there are two huge issues with it. For starters, why the hell would someone want to see a movie centered around the relationship of Lantern and Flash? And if they’re fighting in space, why would Lantern bring Flash with him just because he can react? Everyone else can fly and breathe in space through their own means (or hold their breath). Flash cannot.

But the biggest issue? Why completely ignore the fact that Bruce Timm has already crafted the perfect script for the movie? Just look at the beginning of the Justice League animated series. Spruce some things up a big, add in another couple fights, and you have a blockbuster. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Not a chance in Hell of this film coming back from the dead. The script is horrible, the casting sucked and with the writers still on strike, there is no hope of a resurrection. WB has already said its on permanent hiatus, so trying to convince them otherwise would just be a waste of time.

Unless you are an A-list director with a lot of money, Justice league will remain on the shelf forever.
