Oscar piracy stats and graphs

Obviously, movies up for an Oscar are more likely to be pirated than say, oh, that Veggie Tales movie about vegetable pirates.

Over on Waxy.org, they’ve come up with two posts: the first a detailed spreadsheet of every Oscar nominated movie since 2003 including the first leak, the number/types of leaks and more; and the second an analysis and chart.

As anyone who has downloaded movies or even knows the most basic piracy statistics and methods can testify, things don’t look good for the anti-pirate crowd. From 2003 to this year, little has changed in terms of average length between a movie being released in theaters and being available as a CAM, and between the time screeners are sent to Academy members and find themselves online. This year the Academy and MPAA pride themselves on the lack of screeners leaked for the nominated pictures (less than half of the 32 total films), yet all but four of them have one source of DVD quality rip, whether it be an early DVD Rip or an R5. While screener numbers may be scarce this year… Well, why sit through a screener with a watermark and black & white fades when you can get the DVD version?

Hit the jump to see some graphics with some of the statistics.
