Movie pirate “maVen” flees from Canadian Mounties
Anyone who follows the piracy scene or has ever even looked at a list of releases will recognize the name maVen. Geremi Adam, the man behind the Internet famous pseudonym, was arrested by Canadian police at the behest of the MPAA in April 2006, and again months later in September. Since there were no set laws against recording films in theaters at the time, maVen looked to get a warning, a few months behind bars, and possibly a fine (most likely $25,000). Of course, Geremi had other plans.
Forced to appear in court on January 30th of this year…well, he didn’t. Instead, he fled into the Canadian forests, living amongst animals while avoiding the Mounties searching for the dreaded film pirate. (Or so I like to pretend.) Since he skipped court and is now technically on the run from police, it’s likely he’ll face harsher punishment if caught. The real question now is whether or not the Canadian government is going to take the time, resources, and manpower to find a single movie pirate due to the MPAA and US government asking them to.
