Rumor: Justice League movie loses Batman and Supes, becomes much more badass

A recent rumor around the net reported by sites ranging from Moviehole to IGN states that the Justice League movie is still in plans (although pushed back to begin in 2010 due to the writer’s strike), but not as people expected it.

Rather than shell out high dollars for Bale and Routh (or the rights to use those iconic characters of Batman and Superman if they won’t jump on board), they might just remove them completely. According to Moviehole, the film will be “about Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and others of the Justice League of America, an organization made up of the world’s greatest superheroes must deal with the expulsion of Batman and the death of Superman at the hands of the monstrous Doomsday.”

While many will go “Wait, that’s stupid!” it does solve a lot of issues for Warner Bros. They don’t have to worry about double booking their stars, or having the franchises compete with the same characters. As a fan of comics, I love the idea of a JLA movie focusing on people like Green Arrow and Lantern trying to figure out what to do now that Batman and Superman are out of the picture.

Hopefully it’s more than a rumor.
