Juno most successful indie film since My Big Fat Greek Wedding

How successful is Juno? Fox Searchlight’s Juno has now grossed over $143.1 million worldwide ($125M domestic), making the film the most successful independent movie since 2002’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding (which grossed $241.4M domestically).

In addition to the surprising box office success, Juno is the only film to remain in the top 10 in the box office chart every week since its debut.

Personally, I thought Juno was a bit overrated, but I’m glad to see such a quirky movie is doing so well based only on word of mouth advertising. It’s a good sign to see a film with a budget of $7.5 million perform better than a number of gigantic blockbusters, regardless of my thoughts on it.

With the success of it, how long until teen pregnancy comedies get driven into the ground by big Hollywood producers? I give it until December.
