Live-action Akira film confirmed for 2009
Attention those who have praised Akira as the best anime film of all time: finally you’ll get to see it all with real people! (Of course, whether or not it’s GOOD with real people will remain to be seen.)
As you may recall, Warner Bros owned the rights to Akira and let them slip out of their hands a while back, finally reclaiming them for an undisclosed 7 figure amount. With the film back in their possession, comic-to-movie Midas, Greg Silverman, has pushed Warner to put the live-action Akira remake back on track. What’s planned are two feature films; the first will be comprised of the first three volumes of the Akira manga, while the second will finish the story off.
To show that they mean business, Warner is aiming for a release of summer 2009 for the first film.
